Mulla was upstairs when he heard a knock. From the second-floor window, he yelled, "Who is it?" The man at the door shouted, "Please come down and open the door." Mulla went all the way downstairs and opened it, only to find a beggar who said, "For the love of God, please spare some bread." Mulla said, "Follow me." He led the beggar all the way back up the stairs. Once they were upstairs, Mulla looked at him and said, "May God provide for you; I have nothing." The beggar snapped, "Are you crazy? If you weren't going to give me anything, why didn't you just say so down there instead of dragging me all the way up these stairs?!" Mulla shot back, "Well, if you wanted a handout, why didn't you just ask from down there instead of dragging me all the way to the door?!"
