Mulla’s Bravery
The King wanted to send a brave man on a dangerous mission, but no one volunteered. Mulla stepped forward and said, "I'll do it!"
Thinking Mulla was joking, the King said, "First, we must test your courage. Stand against that wall and spread your arms." The King ordered his master archer to shoot an arrow right through Mulla’s turban. The arrow pierced the fabric perfectly. Mulla nearly died of fright but held his composure.
Next, the King ordered the archer to shoot an arrow through the hem of Mulla's coat. The arrow pinned the coat to the wall. Mulla turned ghostly pale.
Having passed the test, Mulla walked up to the King. The King ordered his servants to give Mulla a brand-new turban and a new coat as a reward.
Mulla smiled and said, "Could you throw in a new pair of pants, too?"
"Why?" the King asked. "The arrow didn't hit your pants."
"True," Mulla said. "They look fine on the outside, but trust me, they took massive damage on the inside."
