Mulla’s Singing Voice
While washing in the bathhouse, Mulla started singing. Bouncing off the tile walls, his voice sounded incredible to him. He rushed to the King's palace and said, "Your Majesty, I have discovered a hidden talent. I have the voice of an angel."
The King said, "Let's hear it."
Mulla said, "I can only sing in the bathhouse, or inside a large water jug."
The King ordered a massive clay jug filled halfway with water to be brought to the throne room. Mulla stuck his head inside and started belting out a song. Without the bathhouse acoustics, he sounded like a dying walrus.
Annoyed, the King ordered his guards to dip their hands in the jug and slap Mulla across the face until the water was gone. After the second slap, Mulla fell to his knees and thanked God.
"Why are you thanking God?" the King asked.
"Because if I had sung in the bathhouse," Mulla wheezed, "these poor guards would be slapping me for the rest of eternity."
