Driven Out
Mulla spent years studying but couldn't find a job in the city. He traveled to the countryside looking for work as a village priest, but every town rejected him. Finally, exhausted and bitter, he arrived at a village that was in the middle of a massive commotion.
"What's going on?" Mulla asked.
"A fox has been killing all our chickens for months," a farmer said. "We finally caught it, but we're trying to figure out the absolute worst torture we can inflict on it to get our revenge."
"Leave it to me," Mulla said darkly. "I will give it a punishment worse than death."
The villagers handed the fox over. Mulla took off his own vest, strapped it onto the fox, wrapped his turban around the fox's head, tied his belt around its waist, and then let it go.
The villagers were furious. "What did you just do?! We spent months trying to catch that thing, and you just let it run away in your clothes! You owe us for the chickens!"
Mulla held up a hand. "You don't understand. I just gave that fox the ultimate curse. Dressed like a village priest, he is going to be rejected from every single hole and house he tries to enter for the rest of his miserable life."
