The Judge's Robe
Mulla and his servant were walking through the orchards outside the city when they stumbled upon the town Judge, who was passed out drunk in the grass, his official robe tossed aside. Mulla snatched the expensive robe, put it on, and walked away.
When the Judge sobered up and realized his robe was gone, he ordered his bailiffs: "If you see anyone wearing my robe, arrest them!"
A bailiff spotted Mulla in the market, wearing the robe, and dragged him to court.
Standing before the furious Judge, Mulla said, "Your Honor, yesterday I was walking in the orchards and saw a man blackout drunk in the grass. I picked up his abandoned robe to keep it safe. I have a witness. Whenever you find that shameful drunkard, let me know, and I'll gladly return his robe to him."
The Judge turned bright red, coughed, and said, "Who knows what idiot that was. You just... you just hold onto the robe for now. If we ever find him, we'll call you."
